Misconceptions

Here are a few things that were written or said about us or our story and are a little wrong or just plain not true. We did try to correct any mistakes, but once the story got out there it had a mind of it's own and there was no way to control it.

1. Gideon stayed inside me for 5 weeks.  That is what I thought about and what I told those reporters that asked. The first reporter wrote in her article that he stayed inside 39 days and for some reason that didn't even register with me that it was wrong.  After there was so much press and everything I started thinking- "Wait! Gideon only stayed inside 35 days... I was in the hospital for a total of 39 so maybe that it where that came from."  I was really sick about the whole thing and wrote to each reporter explaining the situation and asking them to change their stories (or put in a correction or something) then I made sure to tell all other news sources 35 days (apparently people liked the days instead of weeks like I'd always thought of it).  Despite my best efforts the stories continued with everything from 35 days to 6 weeks.
2. No, we did not contact a single news source to try to get our story out there and become famous. Every newspaper and TV show contacted us and we agreed to share our story because we felt that was what the Lord wanted us to do NOT because we wanted to be famous.
3. Gideon was not my first child.  Our son Teancum was born at 35 weeks gestation and weighed 4 lbs 12 oz.  He was 5 1/2 when all this was going on.
4. On The Stir or Cafe Mom story (one we weren't contacted for by the way) that is NOT a picture of me and my husband. I'm not sure who it is, but she doesn't look very happy...
5. In EVERY interview we gave we mentioned God, faith, prayers, the scriptures, and Jesus Christ and 96% of what we said was taken out.  We understand they want to tell the story they want to tell, but the whole reason we shared was to share our faith and trust in God with others NOT just so we can be a freak story.
6. No, I did not keep Gideon inside me after my water broke longer than anyone else has ever kept a baby inside.  There are many stories of ladies keeping their babies longer than me and even having their water break earlier.  It was a miracle to us since with my situation doctors didn't think we'd last 2 days or even 10, so when we lasted 35 days we all knew it was a gift from God and a miracle.
7. We didn't go to New York for any of the interviews- we stayed in Utah and were filmed in our house or at a local studio.
